Pakistani Dramas: What’s needed?
Do you remember the days when a drama would excite you? Like you would wait for it for an entire week, and whenever the episode would end, the thought of waiting another week frustrated you? Yeah, that feeling is not very common today. The majority of dramas of today are similar stories that are just being told in different ways. Our dramas are missing uniqueness and exclusivity in their stories. Almost all of them revolve around the personal lives of people that the audience is now sick of watching.
Think about it, do we have dramas for student life, that is only based on the pressures and challenges of being a ‘student’ (nothing related to romance or harassment)? Do we have dramas based on offices? Hospitals? Lawyers? Engineer? Chefs? Sports? Music? Why is it that our writers turn their faces towards stories related to the police or army, whenever a channel asks for something different? I believe that the competition between channels for ratings has left a huge hole of creativity to be filled.
Moreover, being unique doesn’t necessarily mean creating web series by adding elements of risqué or
abusive language. All the drama industry of today needs is a project that writers like Haseena Moin would be proud of.
