Spider-Man: No Way Home - Review
Well well well……….
We expected a Marvel and we got it indeed. Spiderman No Way Home is a joy ride, especially for the Spider-Man fans. It was everything that one could ask for. This is our review of the movie, and yes SPOILER ALERT!!!
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, don’t read any further if you don’t want the movie to be spoiled…….also………c’mon man, watch it already……….have some fun in life.
Ok so, Spider-Man’s secret identity has been revealed to the world by Mysterio, and because of all the global hysteria about him being a young high school student, he and his friends are not getting accepted into any college. So, to fix things up, Peter asks Dr Strange to fix the issue. Dr Strange conjures a spell, which goes wrong and now every person who knows Peter Parker is Spider-man from every universe has arrived
This includes the villains that were revealed in the trailer, Doc Ock, Electro, Lizard, Sandman, and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. We can’t express enough how Mr Dafoe has delivered in the movie. He was extremely scary………like extremely scary. He outdid his performance in the first movie. And as Dr Strange now figures a way to send them all back to their world, Peter finds out that many of them will die, so he refuses for this to happen until he can “fix” their superpowers. This led to an epic fight scene between Peter and Dr Strange, and interestingly, Spider-man beat Dr Strange….how……not with his webs, not with magic………with math. It was a nice moment reminding us of all that Peter is actually an exceptional genius.
This is followed by one of our favorite scenes in the movie. The apartment scene. Never in our dreams, did we imagine all these villains of different franchises coming together and interacting with a Spider-man of another franchise. It was a bit overwhelming. It was in this scene where Tom Holland and Willem Dafoe stole the show. Peter’s spider-sense starts tingling when he realizes that something is wrong but doesn’t know what is. I think this was the best-directed scene of the movie, because the camera angle was a closeup of Holland’s face, and we could actually hear the background sound muffled while his heartbeat was amplified. Everyone in the theatre was panicking in silence during this sequence, and then we realized what was wrong. The Green Goblin was in the apartment……….and oh my……….the fighting after this………….we tip our hat to Willem Dafoe, on how he didn’t even need a mask to show his crazy side. There was a scene in which Spider-man was punching Green Goblin and with every punch, the Goblin laughed louder and louder.
Aunt May died when the fighting ended……and we heard the classic line……WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. It was a trip down memory lane. We thought this was it, the movie could surprise us more. Oh, boy were we wrong.
TOBEY MAGUIRE AND ANDREW GARFIELD SHOWED UP!!!!! Our cinema exploded with applause and hooting. The best part about them being in the movie was that they didn’t just make cameos, but they actually were supporting characters mentoring a broken young Spider-man. It was fun watching them all interact with references to previous movies.
The last fight sequence with all three Spider-men was perhaps the best spiderman action scene to be shown on the big screen. It showed Andrew’s Spider-man redeeming himself after saving MJ from falling. The movie ended with a bittersweet feeling where everyone including MJ and Ned forgets who Peter Parker is. Now Peter is without a mentor, an aunt, a best friend, a girlfriend, alone in a small apartment……….just like the classic spider-man. Speaking of which we get a new or should we say “classic” red and blue spiderman suit at the end of the movie.
The movie was treated and Iconic Times rates it 9.5/10.
